An Interview with Myself
Some people write whole books about themselves. I have trouble filling a single page. So I thought, “why not just ask myself some questions and write down the answers?” So Me bought Myself a cup of coffee and the interview began…
Me: Let’s start with a simple question. What lead you to work with Campus Crusade for Christ?
Myself: As a teenager, I developed a conviction that God wanted me to somehow be involved in ministry. I went to college and studied radio and television production — and also started playing around with relatively unknown thing called the internet.
In 2001 I was working for a video production company near Cleveland. I’d grown frustrated with my situation and had been asking God for some new direction. I suddenly realized one day that God wanted me to use my gifts and talents serving Him in full-time ministry. After exploring various options, I took a big leap of faith, quit my job, and joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ.
Me: You used to work with the campus ministry, but are now with Global Media Outreach. How has your ministry focus changed?
Myself: I was a part of the US Campus Ministry for my first five and a half years on staff. I worked in the National Campus Office in Orlando, developing both media and technology ministry tools.
I entered full-time ministry with a passion for using the internet and other media to share Jesus’ message with the world. And that’s still true today. In the fall of 2006, I realized that God was moving my heart to work on a more global scale. I became convinced that Global Media Outreach was the best place for me to pursue my passions and have a maximum impact for God’s kingdom.
Me: Here’s a clichéd question. Tell me about your childhood. What was your family like?
Myself: I’m the oldest of three boys. Mom and Dad are both solid Christians who taught us about God and still pray for us daily. We went to church every Sunday — my Dad pastored various churches until I was in high school…
Me: So, you’re a PK?
Myself: Yes, my family lived in a parsonage for the first 17 years of my life. Despite that, I think I turned out fairly normal.
Me: Uh, um, sure. And your family today?
Myself: Both of my brothers are married. My youngest brother lives in Kentucky with his wife (and their canine “kids”) and they both teach. My other brother lives in Colorado with his wife and four children — which, in my unbiased opinion, are the cutest and smartest kids in the world. Mom and Dad are still in Ohio. We’re spread out, but still close in many ways.
Me: You’re not married?
Myself: Not yet :-)
Me: What do you enjoy the most about your work?
Myself: There’s nothing better than doing something you enjoy. I’m certainly not doing it for the paycheck :-) It’s incredible to do something that’s going to have an eternal impact. Sure, I have my share of “gray hair” days with stresses and trials. But the overall mission, sharing the gospel, is rewarding. Plus, I get to work alongside some incredibly talented and godly people.
Me: What’s your favorite food?
Myself: I have to pick just one? Well… I’ve always been a sucker for warm chocolate chip cookies and cold milk. And I consider good coffee to be a necessity of life.
Me: What’s one thing people might notice about you?
Myself: I have a very sharp and often corny sense of humor. And I love puns. I like it when my humor makes people laugh… or groan, in some cases. And with a last name like “Fish” you’ve got to develop a sense of humor about your name.
Me: Is it “Andy” or “Andrew”? I’m confused.
Myself: Most of my friends and family call “Andy.” Sometimes just “Fish.” My mom calls me “Andrew.” I use “Andrew” for my ministry stuff because my folks named me for Jesus’ disciple, Andrew. He was the first missionary, the first person recorded as going out and bringing another person to Jesus. [John 1:40-42]
