Marathon Month

Posted in Letters on August 4th, 2008

Have you ever had one of those months which felt like you were running a marathon? My July was like that; in fact, it was more like a triathlon — between June 27 and July 27, I moved to a new place, took two classes, and made a trip to California and Colorado.

I moved from the house were I’d shared rent for the last four years to a new townhouse nearby. A great benefit of my new place is having a spare bedroom to use as a home office and guest room.  I’m also sharing it with just one housemate, a friend from my church.

A few days after settling in, I began a two-week session of compacted, seminary-level classes offered by Campus Crusade each summer. Since the classes were in Orlando this year, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity. The first class was a study in “systematic theology,” which examines how Scripture establishes the core doctrines of humanity, Jesus Christ, sin and salvation. My other class, Apologetics, was a explored practical issues and methods to effectively share a Biblically centered Christian worldview. Both classes were a lot of work — four hours in class each day, papers and projects, and lots and lots of reading; despite getting a head start, I was still cramming to get everything done. But I will be able to greatly apply both classes to my life and ministry.
Recording in San Diego
Two days after my classes ended, I flew to San Diego, California to record some videos with Josh McDowell. As you may know, Josh is a tremendous author, evangelist, and speaker whose ministry is under the larger umbrella of Campus Crusade for Christ. Josh recorded 23 short videos (in less than 3 hours!) that will be used to help disciple new believers coming to iChristianLife.com

When we began planning this shoot last May, I needed to find an acceptable place to record in San Diego. Searching the internet I discovered that not only did Point Loma Nazarene University have a studio, but also that a friend from graduate school was teaching there! Clark was a tremendous help in arranging things at the school. Leave it to God to bring things together so well — we got some great content from Josh, and I was able to reconnect with a friend I hadn’t seen in 10 years.

From San Diego I went up to Silicon Valley to spend a couple of days with my coworkers there. On the way back, I stopped Colorado to spend a few days with my brother and his family. Now that I’m back in Orlando, I’m eagerly diving into several new projects that God’s brought to me. I look forward to sharing this work with you.
